UTS is about 11 KM from downtown Sumbawa. However, UTS provides a couple of dormitory buildings for students that are located 5 minutes away from the UTS main building (Rectorate). This dormitory is mainly for 1st-year non-Sumbawanese students. In the next year, students can freely decide to rent a single room or rent a shared house with friends.
Sumbawa is a small town with easy transportation access due to the short distance between the places. Most Sumbawa people have their own motorcycle that they use for daily mobility. People who do not ride can use Ojek that can be easily found along the street. Don’t worry, motorcycle rental can also be easily found if you want to have a short-term motorcycle to explore. Recently, application-based transportation has just operated in Sumbawa, making it easier to move during a pandemic outbreak.
Sumbawa has various open spaces downtown such as Taman Mangga, Taman Lembi, and Lapangan Pahlawan that are commonly used as jogging track, meeting point, live music performances, and other outdoor activities. In the UTS area, there is a Public Space Creativity area (RPK) with green vegetation and a peaceful lake with a view of Olat Maras. This area is often used for discussion. You can find serenity and feel close to nature, here, in RPK of UTS.
Besides the attraction of its nature, this small town serves some hangout spots for the youth to chill and have fun. You can still find your favorite snacks and beverages. Most of these spots offer awesome views such as mountains, beaches, and city lights at night. Creative and innovative ideas can always come from these places. Here are some of our recommendations:
The program, known as the Kampus Merdeka (University Freedom), carries four policy packages as its foundation, one of which is the right to study for three semesters outside the study program/department for students. This policy encourages an increasingly autonomous and flexible learning process in higher education. This policy was established in order to keep up with the flow of change and the need for link and match in the workplaces, where universities are required to produce graduates who are able to adapt to the needs of employment in the current millennial era.
This program is a part of the Kampus Merdeka that aimed to provide opportunities for students to maximize their skill and capability through internship programs in various institutions or companies for 6 months. Through this program, we are eager to equip and generate excellent human resources who are capable of dealing with global challenges by synchronized curriculum between the industrial and higher education.
UTS Mengajar, literally means a Teaching Program, is one of activities that is held by involving students and lecturers in every department to assist learning programs in schools during pandemic, to increase productivity of teachers in producing scientific writing, and build the information management system of the school.
